What the job is
You design and build the browser-based tools that a trading firm's staff use to run and watch over its trading systems. The users are experts who use these tools all day, so the tools must be easy and pleasant to use while staying flexible and powerful enough for heavy users.
Front end means the part of software a person sees and touches, here screens in a web browser. Behind it sit the back end, the servers and databases that hold the data and do the work, and middleware, the software that passes messages between them. You work mainly on the front end but also across those other layers.
