What the job is
You write the part of Jane Street's OxCaml compiler that turns programs into fast machine code.
A compiler is the program that translates code a person writes into the instructions a processor can run. Code generation is its last stage, where the translated program is shaped into machine code and made as fast as it can be. OxCaml is Jane Street's own variant of the OCaml programming language. It is open source, and it adds features for high performance and parallel programming, meaning programs that do several things at once, with guarantees that those parallel parts cannot corrupt each other's data. The compiler is used by the firm's engineers worldwide, so a speed gain you make reaches every program they build.
