What this title actually means

This is the 2027 Global Markets summer internship in London: nine weeks running June to August, inside the Commercial & Investment Bank, at 25 Bank Street, Canary Wharf. Job category 'Seasonal Employee', schedule full time, posted 1 September 2026, 'Apply Before 01/11/2026, 23:55'. The firm says it is targeted at penultimate-year or final-year students and is a pipeline to the analyst programme the following year, with full-time offers on graduation for those who do well. Day to day you support senior colleagues with research, analysis and preparatory work, monitor markets, develop trade ideas, conduct portfolio reviews and learn the products the bank offers clients. Source

The firm describes Global Markets as operating in all major financial markets and developing solutions that help clients manage risk, increase returns and solve complex financial problems, and says it holds key positions across all major financial markets globally. Source

'Global Markets' is the trading floor. The bank buys and sells securities, currencies, rates and derivatives with its clients and manages the risk that trading leaves behind. What separates it from the investment bank upstairs is the clock: a markets job is scored on positions and client flow day by day, not on a transaction that closes in six months. That suits some people enormously and makes others miserable, and it is worth being honest with yourself about which you are before you spend the application.

The team

You join one of four tracks, and the firm describes each. Trading: providing liquidity to clients in all major asset classes, responding to and encouraging client enquiries, managing the resulting risk and reacting to market-moving events - detail-focused and mentally demanding. Structuring & Origination: servicing clients' structured product needs, with investor products, liability management and hedging solutions, and the derivatives range sold to institutional investors, distributors, corporates and private investors. Systematic Trading: the intersection of data science, algorithms and markets, where interns help design trading and execution strategies, analyse data patterns, enhance trading software and automation tools, and support pricing, risk management, back-testing and day-to-day performance. Digital Markets: digital distribution strategies, automation and business efficiency across the markets platform, working with teams delivering digital solutions for external clients and internal stakeholders. Source

30 people have held London roles in JPMorgan's Markets division since 2018, against 216 in its investment bank. The markets seats are the scarcer of the two, which is worth knowing when you are trying to find someone to talk to before an interview - the alumni network on this side of the firm is thinner.

Those four tracks are not four flavours of the same job. Trading and Structuring are front-office markets seats in the traditional sense; Systematic Trading is a coding-and-statistics job that will expect Python and a project you can talk through; Digital Markets is closer to product and technology than to risk-taking. One application covers all four, so decide which one you are actually applying for before you write anything, because the evidence each of them wants from you is different.

The firm

580 people have held London roles at JPMorgan as a whole since 2018, across the investment bank, markets, asset management and research.

What this posting signals

'We recommend that you apply to one Markets program only.' And: 'We fill our classes on a rolling basis and encourage early applications.' The page's Similar Jobs list names the siblings: the 2027 Sales and 2027 Research summer internships in London, both posted 31 August 2026, alongside the Global Corporate Banking programme. Source

Of the three Markets programmes you are allowed one of, this is the broadest: four tracks sit under a single application, from a trading desk to a systematic quant team to a digital product role. If you are certain about the floor but not yet about the seat, that breadth is the argument for spending your one Markets application here rather than on Sales or Research.

1 November is the outside edge, not the target. Classes are filled on a rolling basis and the firm says programmes close as positions are filled, so an application in September is read against a class with every track open. Waiting until half term costs you options you will never see were gone.

Are you eligible?

Required: excellent analytical, quantitative (the page names algebra, statistics and probability) and interpretative skills; the ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment; being adaptable, flexible and resilient; proficient verbal and written communication for the country you are applying to; willingness to take on responsibility and manage your own projects; and a graduation date from June 2027 to August 2028. The firm says it welcomes applications from all degree disciplines and values the diversity of thought different academic backgrounds bring, while noting that, given the nature of Global Markets work, candidates who enjoy numerical, analytical and quantitative challenges are likely to thrive. Source

Process: do not register with a '.edu or.ac.uk' email address, which the firm says can delay updates on your candidacy. If you advance you are invited to complete a video interview and a maths test, both powered by HireVue; both are required and the firm says your application will not be considered for further review until you have completed both. Source

'All degree disciplines' is true and is not the whole truth. A history degree is genuinely not a bar - but everyone sits the maths test, and the Systematic Trading track expects data science on top. The graduation window of June 2027 to August 2028 is the only line that rules you out on paper, and it is wide enough to include a final-year student who would do the internship after graduating.
