New here? Every junior finance job in London, each one explained in plain English. Start with what the words mean, then work down the board.
No deadline given. It closes when the places fill, which on a sought-after London desk is often weeks after it opens. Apply as if it closes tomorrow.
Token by token: 'Investment Banking' is the division (the business unit field reads Commercial & Investment Bank), 'EMEA' is the coverage region, 'Consumer & Retail' is the sector group, 'Associate' is the band and the job category, and 'London' is 25 Bank Street, Canary Wharf. The posting went up on 16 June 2026 and opens by saying the firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced investment banking associate to join the EMEA Consumer & Retail team. Source
The stated job: preparing pitch documentation, financial analysis and company valuations; developing content for strategic client meetings on M&A or capital markets transactions; building advanced financial analyses and M&A models with the support of experienced bankers; execution and day-to-day management of transactions, including day-to-day corporate broking services for the firm's LSE and AIM listed clients; liaising with the M&A, ECM, DCM and Leveraged Finance product teams and with lawyers and accountants; and providing leadership, mentorship and supervision to associates and analysts. Source
This is a lateral hire, not a student seat. The word 'experienced' is in the first sentence, the requirements ask for prior front-office experience, and the responsibilities have you supervising analysts and associates rather than being one. Our row tags it off-cycle; that tag is wrong, because there is no internship here at all. An associate at a bulge bracket is the band above analyst - the person who owns the model and the process while the analyst builds the pages.
The team is J.P. Morgan's Investment Banking Consumer & Retail Coverage Group, which the firm says provides a full range of investment banking services to clients across EMEA including many of the world's leading consumer and retail firms. Its focus is delivering across the full product spectrum - mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt capital markets - plus top-tier corporate broking services across the EMEA consumer and retail client base, working with colleagues from other product teams. Source
Consumer & Retail is one of London's top-three deal-flow sectors, alongside financials and industrials, and coverage spans eight sub-sectors with wildly different unit economics: FMCG, luxury, apparel, food and beverage, restaurants and QSR, e-commerce and DTC, grocery, and specialty and travel retail. FMCG trades at roughly 12-18x EV/EBITDA on volume growth and pricing power, luxury 15-30x on brand moats, grocery just 6-10x on thin margins and capital intensity - so knowing which box a target sits in matters before you touch a multiple. The daily vocabulary is like-for-like growth, sell-through rate, markdown rate, inventory days and margins, plus CAC, customer lifetime value and cohort analysis for direct-to-consumer. The red flags are inventory rising faster than revenue, declining sell-through, CAC inflation against flat lifetime value, lease-adjusted leverage after IFRS 16, and channel stuffing at quarter-end. Source
The corporate broking line is the part outsiders miss. LSE and AIM are the London markets, so written into this seat is a standing, day-to-day service relationship with UK-listed companies, sitting alongside the transaction work rather than instead of it. It means more routine client contact than a pure product seat, and it is why the requirements ask for a commitment to a career in 'investment banking and corporate broking' as two things.
215 people have held London roles in JPMorgan's investment banking division since 2018, the division this sector group belongs to. there is no separate London count for the consumer and retail desk itself, so read that as the surrounding division rather than the team.
This row carries no apply-before date and has been up since 16 June 2026 - nearly three months by early September. That means rolling review: the seat closes when someone accepts, not on a date. It also means the row may be stale. We do not mark a posting closed on absence alone, so treat it as unverified rather than gone, and confirm with the firm before you spend a week tailoring an application to it.
If you are a student, the useful signal is that desks hiring laterally are desks with more work than hands, and that is worth knowing when you rank coverage-group preferences for a summer class you cannot yet apply to at this level.
Required: prior experience in investment banking and/or corporate finance in front office roles; a true passion for the consumer and retail industry; a steadfast commitment to building a long-term career in investment banking and corporate broking; outstanding modelling and financial analysis with solid analytical and quantitative skills; outstanding written and oral communication; willingness to develop and learn quickly; and a team player with good organisational skills and an eye for detail. The role encompasses regulated activity, so the successful candidate is subject to the firm's assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence and, where appropriate, approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. Source
Read 'investment banking and/or corporate finance in front office roles' slowly, because the 'and/or' is doing real work. It does not say you must already be at a bank. Corporate finance in a Big Four transaction services or lead advisory team is inside that wording, and a lot of people who could apply here talk themselves out of it. If that is you, the gap to close is the modelling standard, not the badge on your building.
For a student, this is not a row you can apply to - there is no degree, grade or graduation window on it because none is being assessed. What it is good for is the interview: 'true passion for the Consumer and Retail industry' is exactly the thing a summer analyst candidate is asked to prove, and the way to prove it is a brand you can talk about in like-for-likes, inventory and margin rather than in adjectives.
