2027 UK Rothschild & Co Redburn Sales Summer Intern programme - London
No deadline given. It closes when the places fill, which on a sought-after London desk is often weeks after it opens. Apply as if it closes tomorrow.
What this title actually means
A ten-week summer internship in London starting June 2027, on the sales side of Rothschild & Co Redburn. Applications opened on 19 August 2026; the firm recruits on a rolling basis, accepting applications and interviewing continuously once applications are open, and encourages early submission. It is aimed at students in their second or penultimate year of university. Source
The firm's own definition of the job: Redburn's salespeople market and distribute all of its research - fundamental analysis, the quantitative product, economic and macro thought leadership, technical analysis and income screening - to professional investors. A salesperson must be an expert in both the market and Redburn's products, know each client's investment style, alter content appropriately and dispense advice according to each client's criteria; to be effective account managers, salespeople need to become their clients' go-to contact by matching client needs and investing styles with Redburn's expertise. Source
'Sales' is the token that gets misread most often on any London floor. This is institutional equity sales: your clients are professional fund managers, and what you sell them is the firm's research and the judgement to know which parts of it they will care about. It is not a corporate-facing job, and it is not sales trading either - the same page separates sales from the sales traders and execution teams who transact the client's business. You carry the relationship; they carry the order.
Read 'go-to contact' literally, because it is the performance measure. A salesperson is judged on whether a fund manager picks up, and on whether the call was worth the two minutes. That is a job with no place to hide and a very short feedback loop, and it rewards a different person from the one who enjoys building a model quietly for six hours.
The team
Our record carries no team for this row, and the page names no desk. Redburn sales is organised around clients and around the research it distributes - the page lists fundamental, quantitative, macro, technical and income products - so which slice of that you sit against is decided after the offer, not now. Ask what the sales desk is structured by (client type, or product) before you interview, because the answer tells you what your ten weeks look like.
The firm says that while it will endeavour to match placements within a requested team, successful applicants may be offered placements in alternative teams it considers a more suitable fit, subject to individual and Rothschild & Co Redburn requirements. Source
The page places sales inside the wider business: Redburn's research analysts and salespeople advise professional investors on European and US equities, its sales traders and execution teams transact those clients' business, its expert access team links investors to industry executives and independent experts, and its equity capital markets team serves corporates raising equity. The firm
Rothschild & Co Redburn is the group's equities business, whose stated purpose in research, execution and equity capital markets is to help clients generate superior investment performance, built on intellectual freedom, commercial research, best execution and premium client service. Redburn and Atlantic Equities were both formed in 2003 - Redburn on European equities, Atlantic on US - and merged under Rothschild & Co ownership in 2023, with US and European research seated together in London. Source
321 people have held London roles at Rothschild & Co as a whole since 2018. That is the group's footprint, not this floor's: the units the record holds underneath it are the advisory and wealth businesses, and none of them is Redburn, so the record cannot size the sales desk for you.
What this posting signals
A June 2027 start advertised from 19 August 2026 is the annual campus cycle run ten months ahead. Sales intakes at an independent equities house are small, and rolling review with no closing date means they are filled by whoever is ready first rather than by whoever is best in March.
This is one of the few genuinely people-facing seats a penultimate-year student can get in London, and it is chronically under-applied for because 'sales' sounds junior next to 'banking'. It is not: it is the commercial end of an equities business, it pays on the same floor, and the competition for it is thinner. If you are the person who is better in a room than in a spreadsheet, this row deserves an application that the M&A ones may not.
Are you eligible?
Aimed at students in their second or penultimate year of university, on track for a minimum of a 2:1 or equivalent. The firm asks for a genuine interest in corporate finance with good commercial awareness; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication; teamwork with the ability to work independently; strong quantitative, numerical and analytical skills, comfortable working accurately with numbers and writing prose; drive and motivation; creativity and independent problem-solving; and resilience. The programme opens with intensive classroom training in accounting, valuation and modelling before you join a desk. Source
The technical bar is the same 2:1 and the same accounting-and-valuation training as every other stream here, so do not treat sales as the soft option - you will be taught the same material and expected to hold it. What differs is what gets you through the interview: a view on a market, expressed in ninety seconds, to someone who has heard it before. No degree subject, graduation window or right-to-work line appears on the page, so those filters sit in the application form.
