UK Horizon Women's Work Experience Programme - Summer 2027

This is a three-day work experience programme in London starting August 2027, aimed at female students in year 13 who are considering a career in financial advisory. Applications open on 7 December 2026; Rothschild & Co recruits on a rolling basis and encourages early submission. Source

Take the title apart before you spend anything on it. 'UK Horizon' is just the programme's name. 'Women's' is a hard eligibility criterion, not a preference. 'Work Experience' is the school-leaver category - three days of sessions, presentations and a group project, not a placement on a desk. And 'Summer 2027' means three days in August 2027, nearly two years out. Our own programme tag on this row says summer internship: that is wrong, and if you are at university this is not your row.

If you are in year 13 and eligible, the calculation is different and it is a good one. Three days inside a 200-year-old advisory firm, a project presented at the end, and a stay-in-touch programme afterwards is more contact with the industry than most people get before their second year of university - and the firm's own site lists Early Insights, Internships, Graduates and Apprenticeships as separate routes, so this is the first rung of a ladder that has the rest of its rungs published.

The programme is centred on Global Advisory and serves as an introduction to the firm's M&A, Debt and Restructuring, and Equity Advisory businesses. You network with junior bankers from Global Advisory, Wealth Management and Five Arrows, take part in skills sessions, hear presentations from Analysts across each division, work in groups on a project you present at the end, and tour the firm's historical archives. Rothschild & Co's site sets out four businesses: Global Advisory (M&A and capital markets advice), Wealth Management, Asset Management, and Five Arrows, its alternative assets arm running private equity and private debt funds. Source

Applications do not open until 7 December 2026, so there is nothing to do today except put the date in a calendar. After that it is rolling with no closing date, and on a three-day programme with a fixed room that means places go in the first weeks. Apply in the first fortnight of December, not in the spring.

What the firm gets out of three days is a stay-in-touch list, and that is also what you get. Nobody is hired off this programme - the value is being a known name when you apply for a spring insight in your first year at university, and having something concrete to say about what advisory work actually looks like. Treat the group project and the analysts you meet as the point, and keep their names.

Aimed at female students in year 13. On track for a minimum of 136 UCAS points or equivalent. Candidates should be motivated to learn, have an interest in financial advisory and be a good team player. The firm states that to be considered, candidates must live within commutable distance to London. Source

The commutable-distance line is the quiet filter and it is worth naming: this is a London-and-the-home-counties programme, and the page offers nothing about travel costs, accommodation or pay. If you are at school outside the South East, that is the sentence that decides it, not the UCAS points.
