Job

Mergers and acquisitions · Advisory group

Standard Chartered · M&A advisory group · Graduate

International investment bank

What the job is

You join a bank's M&A Advisory Group as a graduate, working on the deals in which companies buy, sell or merge businesses. M&A stands for mergers and acquisitions. The group advises clients on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, which are sales of part of a business, and financial restructurings, which are reworkings of a company's debts when it cannot pay them, as well as on raising capital. The bank advises rather than investing its own money and is mostly paid a fee when a deal completes. The seat sits inside Corporate & Investment Banking and starts in July 2027 on a two year graduate programme.

The M&A Advisory Group is a product team. Coverage bankers own the relationship with each client and bring the group in when a client wants to do a deal. The group then runs the deal, working with those coverage partners and with the bank's other product groups.
