Analyst / associate
A posting marked analyst or associate is open at either level, and the firm decides which title to give once it has met the person. It usually means a small team with one place to fill, which would rather find the right person than insist on a fixed amount of experience.
If you are finishing university or have a little experience, you would come in at analyst level. If you have a few years behind you, the same posting could be a step up to associate.
These roles are more common at boutique advisers, investment funds and smaller firms than on the large bank programmes. Read what the posting asks for in experience and skills, because that shows where on the range the firm is really looking.
