Global Capital Markets 2027 Summer Analyst (DCM, ECM, Leveraged Finance, and SSG) - London
Closes Sun 11 October
What this title actually means
This is Bank of America's Global Capital Markets 2027 Summer Analyst programme in London, covering four teams: Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Leveraged Finance (LevFin) and the Sustainable Solutions Group (SSG). You indicate a preference between DCM, ECM, LevFin and SSG when you apply, and after selection you could be placed in any one of the four, while keeping exposure to the others across the summer. The advert defines each product. DCM: bonds, loans, capital products, liability management, and FX and rates solutions. ECM: IPOs, accelerated bookbuilds, rights issues, convertible bonds and bespoke derivative transactions. Leveraged Finance: leveraged loans and high-yield bonds for acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, take-privates, dividend recapitalisations and refinancings of sub-investment-grade issuers and private equity portfolio companies. SSG advises on sustainability matters that influence financing, valuation and strategy, working with Investment Banking, DCM and ECM. Clients across the groups are investment-grade and sub-investment-grade corporates, financial institutions, private equity firms and sovereign, supranational and agency issuers. Source
'Capital Markets' at this bank is the origination side that sits between the coverage bankers and the trading floor: the responsibilities say you would work with Investment Banking and Corporate Banking on coverage, and with sales and traders in Global Markets on live deal execution. That is the honest picture of the job: you price and structure the financing the bankers have won, and you watch the market to do it.
The team
Nothing attaches this posting to a single team node, because the advert covers four; which one you join is decided after selection. The four are described above from the advert itself.
As a summer analyst your tasks may include working with product specialists directly with clients at top management level to create financing solutions; building a market view and contributing to financing strategies; designing tailored client presentations for general corporate, sustainable-themed and acquisition financings; working on live transactions; working with Investment Banking and Corporate Banking on coverage and origination; understanding how investors integrate sustainability into decisions; and coordinating with Global Markets sales and traders on live executions while keeping in touch with Global Research on market developments. 139 people have held London roles at Bank of America's IBD since 2018, against 13 in the bank's Global Markets unit in the same data. Capital markets teams sit between those two populations, and there is no separate count for DCM, ECM, LevFin or SSG, so read the IBD figure as the wider banking population this programme feeds rather than the four teams.
The firm
Bank of America describes its purpose as helping make financial lives better through the power of every connection, delivered through Responsible Growth, and states a commitment to an in-office culture with specific attendance requirements and role-based flexibility. Applications are capped at 8 per recruitment season worldwide and EMEA applicants may submit only one; after that you cannot apply to any other EMEA programme that season. Source
321 people have held London roles at Bank of America as a whole since 2018, against 139 in IBD, so investment banking is the largest single destination for the bank's London hires.
What this posting signals
Candidates who perform well may be offered full-time employment starting July 2028, with some lines of business offering a January or April start; you must be able to take one of those dates, as no deferrals are offered. Recruiting is rolling once applications open and assessments often begin before the deadline, and the bank warns applications may close early. Source
A 2027 summer programme opened in late August 2026 with a July 2028 full-time start and a June 2027 to July 2028 completion window is the annual campus cycle, built to convert into the 2028 analyst class. The summer is the interview for that job.
The preference you state matters more than it looks: the advert says the bank prefers Leveraged Finance applicants with previous finance coursework or internship experience, so LevFin is the competitive pick and the one where a blank finance background will show. DCM and SSG are the lines where the advert's welcome to arts and humanities degrees is most real.
Are you eligible?
You must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's at an accredited university with a completion date between June 2027 and July 2028, where completion means all exams and coursework done; the bank may ask for evidence before an offer. On track for a minimum 2:1 or equivalent. Applications are accepted from arts and humanities as well as economics, mathematics, science and engineering, with a preference for Leveraged Finance applicants who have previous finance coursework or internship experience. Fluency in English is essential and any European language highly desirable; regional roles require the local language. The bank also wants drive and a genuine interest in financial markets, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and creativity, and lists competent Microsoft Office use as desired. Source
The completion window admits both a final-year student finishing in June 2027 and a penultimate-year student finishing in summer 2028; a 2029 graduate is a year early. The one-EMEA-application rule means this advert and the bank's investment banking summer advert are alternatives, not a pair: pick capital markets only if you want a product seat over a coverage one.
