What this title actually means

This is Bank of America's Global Investment Banking 2027 Summer Analyst programme in London, the bank's main summer internship in its Investment Banking division. The programme runs June to August 2027 and is designed to show you what a full-time Investment Banking Analyst does, working with some of the bank's industry, country and product coverage teams. Source

As a summer analyst you would work on projects alongside bankers in specific industry, product and country groups, help the team deliver client solutions using the whole bank, contribute to client presentations and the financial analysis under them, and take part in executing transactions, including work with clients and with other banks and advisers. Formal training comes at the start, with on-the-job support, speaker events and mentorship after. Source

'Global' in the title means the whole division, not a team. The advert lists every coverage group and does not ask you to choose one, so your team is decided after the offer. The application is where you tell them which of the listed groups you want.

The team

This sits under Bank of America's IBD, and the advert lays the division out: industry teams in Consumer and Retail; Natural Resources & Energy Transition; Financial Institutions; Financial Sponsors; Healthcare; Global Industries Group; Real Estate, Gaming and Leisure; and Technology, Media and Telecoms. Mergers and Acquisitions is the key product team. Country coverage teams cover every EMEA region and are partly or fully based in regional offices. The groups work together to advise clients on corporate finance, M&A and capital markets. Source

139 people have held London roles at Bank of America's IBD since 2018, against 15 in the bank's M&A unit in the same data. The coverage groups, not the product team, are where most of the London bankers we see sit, which matches an advert that lists eight industry teams and one product team.

The line about regional roles ('for some roles within specific regions, e.g. CEE, a knowledge of those regions is required') is the tell that country teams recruit from this same pool. If you have a second European language and know a market, say so; it is a way into a smaller team with more responsibility.

The firm

Bank of America describes its purpose as helping make financial lives better through the power of every connection, delivered through Responsible Growth, and states a commitment to an in-office culture with specific attendance requirements and role-based flexibility. Applications are capped at 8 per recruitment season worldwide and EMEA applicants may submit only one; after that you cannot apply to any other EMEA programme that season. Source

321 people have held London roles at Bank of America as a whole since 2018, against 139 in IBD, so investment banking is the largest single destination for the bank's London hires.

What this posting signals

Candidates who perform well may be offered full-time employment starting July 2028, with some lines of business offering a January or April start; you must be able to take one of those dates, as no deferrals are offered. Recruiting is rolling once applications open and assessments often begin before the deadline, and the bank warns applications may close early. Source

A 2027 summer programme opened in late August 2026 with a July 2028 full-time start is the annual campus cycle, and the completion window (June 2027 to July 2028) shows it is built to convert into the 2028 analyst class. Treat the summer as a ten-week interview for that job.

Six weeks from posting to deadline with rolling assessment means the earlier applications see more open seats. The one-EMEA-application rule means this general advert competes with the bank's sector-specific ones for your single application: choose this one if you want the division to place you, a sector one if you already know where you want to be.

Are you eligible?

You must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's at an accredited university with a completion date between June 2027 and July 2028, where completion means all exams and coursework done with nothing outstanding; the bank may ask for evidence before an offer. You must be available June to August 2027 and on track for a minimum 2:1 or equivalent. Essentials: fluency in English; drive, innovation and a genuine interest in financial markets; teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and creativity; analytical skill; communication that influences outcomes; integrity. Desired: a second European language, and for some regional roles (CEE is the example) knowledge of the region. Source

The completion window is the gate most people misread. A final-year student finishing in June 2027 is inside it, which is unusual for a summer programme, and so is a penultimate-year student finishing in summer 2028; a student graduating in 2029 is a year early for this intake.
