You spend 10 weeks on the trading desk of a stockbroker, learning how large investors' share orders are carried out without moving the price against them. The seat is a summer internship in Execution Services at Rothschild & Co Redburn, the part of Rothschild & Co that serves fund managers with equity research, sales and trading. Execution is the business of actually buying and selling the shares a client has decided to trade, and it is made up of several roles that work closely together.

Sales traders talk to clients through the day, passing on market insight and news flow, promoting the firm's research and working the clients' orders. An algorithmic team runs and tailors the computer programs that split a large order into many small trades to suit what each client needs. Rothschild & Co calls the seat the 2027 UK Rothschild & Co Redburn Execution Services Summer Intern programme.
