The listed responsibilities are researching the industries in which clients operate to support senior bankers' marketing initiatives, including contributing content to pitch books; developing and maintaining standard or bespoke financial models under guidance from senior bankers; using a range of valuation techniques including discounted cash flow, trading comparables, transaction comparables and LBO-based approaches; supporting the team in coordinating the transaction process internally and with clients, counterparties and other advisers; and developing relationship skills through client contact and exposure to senior bankers. 'Coverage' is the word doing the work. A coverage team owns the client relationship for a country or a sector rather than a product, so the Dutch desk's job is knowing Benelux corporates, families and sponsors, and pitching them ideas. That is why the responsibilities lead with research and pitch material before they get to models. 'Long Term Internship' is Rothschild's name for a five to six month off-cycle seat, not a summer programme, whatever the summer-internship tag on our row says.

Fluency in Dutch is a hard gate, not a preference, and it is the first line in the qualifications. This is a language seat before it is a finance seat: you will be reading Dutch company filings, press and management material and sitting on Dutch-language calls. Conversational Dutch will not survive an interview partly conducted in it, and no amount of banking experience substitutes.

Only one of the two intakes is a London job. The page puts the January start in London and the June start in Amsterdam, which means if you want to be in London you are applying specifically for January 2027 and you should say so in the availability answer rather than leaving it open. It also means the June option raises a work-permit question the page does not answer, so if you would need permission to work in the Netherlands, settle that before you spend the application.

The page gives an application start date of 18 August 2027, which cannot be right for internships starting in January and June 2027. Read it as August 2026 and assume applications are open now. 'Second or penultimate year' plus a five to six month full-time block is a combination that needs planning: on a three-year degree, a January start collides with your penultimate year, so this realistically works for people on four-year courses, placement years or a formal interruption. Work out which of your years is free before applying, because the availability question is the first thing they will read.
