Team: Global Financing Solutions. Rothschild & Co’s Global Financing Solutions & Restructuring (“FS&R”) team is made up of over 200 bankers across 14 countries, advising on more than $200 billion of capital raises and restructurings each year (source)

What this title actually means

This is Rothschild & Co's Global Financing Solutions and Restructuring summer analyst programme: ten weeks in London starting June 2027, aimed at students in their second or penultimate year of university, with applications opening on 19 August 2026. FS&R is described as over 200 bankers across 14 countries, advising on more than 200 billion dollars of capital raises and restructurings each year across around 350 transactions, which the firm calls almost one deal a day. Source

FS&R is made up of four core teams. Investment Grade advises large, mostly FTSE 100 and 250 corporates at or near investment grade on loans, bonds and USPP transactions, M&A financings and debt structure optimisation. Leveraged Finance advises private-equity-owned or highly leveraged corporates, often financing LBOs, M&A or complex refinancings. Restructuring advises companies, hedge funds and special situations funds in distressed situations. Hedging and derivatives advises corporates, sponsors and investors on managing interest rate, currency, inflation and commodity exposures. Source

This is the debt side of the house, and that is the whole point of the title. An M&A analyst asks what a business is worth; an FS&R analyst asks how it is funded, what the covenants say, who holds the paper and what happens when the cash runs short. The firm calls itself primarily an origination business, so the work starts before there is a mandate. This application is for FS&R specifically: it puts you on the financing side of the house, alongside the M&A team rather than in it.

The team

FS&R is a fully integrated part of Rothschild & Co's Global Advisory practice and collaborates closely with the M&A and Global Markets Solutions teams on execution. The firm says it is the largest financing advisory team globally with London as the central global hub, that it has advised on over 3,250 FS&R assignments since 2010 totalling around 2.5 trillion dollars of debt, and that it receives over 1,000 financing proposals a year. It also says the business operates in small teams with very flat structures, so summer analysts get exposure to senior members of their team. Source

74 people have held London roles in Rothschild & Co's Global Advisory division since 2018, which is where the record place this seat, and 83 in the firm's M&A team. Between them they are most of the firm's London footprint.

The posting names FS&R but never says which of the four desks a summer analyst sits on. Investment grade lending, leveraged finance, restructuring and derivatives are four different jobs sharing one advert, and the allocation is made after the offer. Ask at interview which desks take summer analysts, and say which one you want while someone is still listening.

The firm

The firm states its market position plainly: retained adviser to many of Europe's largest and most influential corporates, Europe's largest placer of private credit both senior and subordinated, the only adviser with TLB and high yield bond deal flow equivalent to the top-tier bookrunner banks, and consistently ranked number one in EMEA restructuring by both value and volume of transactions. The client examples it lists include Wimbledon, Thames Water, Porsche, Burberry, Iceland, Flutter, John Lewis and Experian on the corporate side, and Ares, Apollo, Blackstone, Bridgepoint, Carlyle, CVC, EQT, KKR and Montagu among sponsors. Source

321 people have held London roles at Rothschild & Co as a whole since 2018, one of the deeper London alumni pools and therefore an easy firm to find someone to talk to about before you apply.

What this posting signals

Restructuring is what happens when a capital structure breaks, and from that point it is a contest between creditor classes trying to minimise their losses. Seniority is absolute: super-priority claims are paid first, then senior secured, senior unsecured, subordinated, mezzanine, and equity, which usually gets nothing. The fulcrum security is where value runs out in the capital structure, and whoever holds it controls the negotiation. The 13-week cash flow model is the key diligence tool because it shows the liquidity runway, and that runway is the clock driving every deadline. A UK scheme of arrangement requires 75 per cent by value and a majority by number in each class. Source

The page says outright that applications open on 19 August 2026 and that recruitment is rolling, with interviews conducted continuously and no closing date. It is therefore open now, and the practical deadline is the day the class is full. Apply in the first weeks of the window, not in the winter, and treat any 'deadline' you see quoted elsewhere as noise.

Are you eligible?

The programme is aimed at students in their second or penultimate year of university, on track for a minimum of a 2:1 or equivalent, with a genuine interest in corporate finance and debt markets, strong commercial awareness, strong analytical and numerical skills, MS Office, and the usual communication, teamwork and attention-to-detail lines. It begins with intensive classroom training covering accounting, corporate finance fundamentals and modelling before you join a desk, and the firm says that at the end of the internship you could be considered for a permanent role on its Graduate Programme once you have finished university. No right-to-work condition and no degree subject requirement is published on the page. Source

'Second or penultimate year' is wider than the usual rule and worth reading twice. On a four-year course, a year abroad or a Scottish degree, your second year is not your penultimate year, and this programme accepts both. If you are a second-year who assumed the summer intake was a year away, it is not.

The conversion line is the real prize: ten weeks in London in summer 2027 is the interview for a graduate seat you would start after university. That changes how you use the summer. Learn one desk properly, get known by the people on it, and ask before the last fortnight what a return offer requires.
