Team: Wealth Management. A franchise that uses the firm's global network, sourcing capabilities, and deep experience to provide personalized perspectives, advice, and offerings tailored to the financial and planning needs of ultra-high net worth individuals, family offices, foundations, executives, and employees. (source)
The tokens: '2027' the recruiting year, 'EMEA' the region, 'London' the office, 'Wealth Management, Private Wealth Management' the business, and 'WMP One Year Work Placement' the programme. The posting's fields give the division as Asset & Wealth Management and the corporate title as Seasonal, and carry Goldman's standard off-cycle wording - the Off-Cycle Program varies in length based on programme and university, for undergraduate students. Source
Goldman describes Wealth Management as spanning Private Wealth Management, Goldman Sachs Ayco, Wealth Solutions, and Private Banking, Lending & Deposits - advisor-led businesses providing financial planning, investment management, banking and comprehensive advice to ultra-high-net-worth and high-net-worth individuals, family offices, foundations, endowments, and corporations and their employees. Source
The posting never expands 'WMP', so we will not guess at it for you. What the title does say plainly is the part that changes your decision: one year. This is a twelve-month industrial placement in Private Wealth Management - the kind a UK sandwich degree builds in between second and final year - not a nine-week summer internship and not a graduate job. If your course has no placement year, you cannot take this without interrupting your degree, and that is the first thing to check.
The team
Asset & Wealth Management as a whole has over $3 trillion in assets under supervision and serves mutual funds, hedge funds, pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurers, endowments, foundations, third-party wealth firms and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Within it, Wealth Management's clients are the private ones - wealthy individuals and families, family offices, foundations, endowments, and companies and their employees - and the firm says its growth is driven by focus on clients and customers, its people, and leading-edge technology, data and design. 7 people have held London roles in Goldman Sachs' Wealth Management since 2018, against 232 in the Investment Banking Division - the smallest London unit at the firm. Two things follow. The seat is far less contested than a banking one, and you will struggle to find anyone who has done it and can tell you what it was like, so your interview is also your research.
Private Wealth Management is a relationship business, and a placement here is a year spent supporting advisers who cover wealthy families rather than a year building deal models. You will see financial planning and investment management from the client's side of the table - what people actually do with money once they have it. That is genuinely useful and genuinely different from banking. Decide which one you want before you give it twelve months.
The firm
779 people have held London roles at Goldman Sachs as a whole since 2018, across banking, markets, asset and wealth management and research.
What this posting signals
A one-year placement is the deepest exposure an undergraduate can get at a bank short of a graduate offer: long enough to be handed real responsibility rather than a summer project, and long enough for the team to know whether they want you back. The trade is that it takes a year out of your degree and out of the summer-internship cycle, and you will be applying for graduate roles from inside the firm rather than from a summer class.
No deadline is stated. Placement-year seats are filled as suitable students appear rather than against a cut-off, so apply as soon as your university has confirmed you can take a placement year - the confirmation is the bottleneck, not the closing date.
Are you eligible?
The programme is for undergraduate students. Goldman's stated application rule: up to four separate business/location combinations in any recruiting year, further applications auto-withdrawn, an existing application that has not been turned down must be withdrawn before you add another, and a single applicant should not create multiple email addresses to apply to more opportunities. Source
This placement costs one of your four Goldman applications in the same year you are choosing summer seats. On a sandwich degree that is an easy trade - the placement is what your course was designed around, and the field is thin. On a three-year degree it is not: you would be applying for something you cannot take, and one of your four is too expensive to spend on that.
Ready to apply?
No deadline given, so it closes when the places fill.
Most junior seats are filled by someone writing to the right person before a portal
fills up. Here is one of the people Goldman Sachs publishes, in full.
1 person. Their role, the page the firm names them on, and how to reach them
The route that always works, and the one they are most likely to read.
The firm publishes this person, and publishes no address we could read for anyone here, so there is no pattern to show you either. Search their name and firm on LinkedIn and write from your own account.
