Team: TMT. Our Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) Group advises clients in the technology, media and telecom sectors on various financial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings, joint ventures, restructurings, and financial investments (source)
Goldman's own header lines on this page: Division: Global Banking & Markets. Function: Banker - Industry/Country Coverage. Corporate title: Associate. Location: London, United Kingdom. Start: 17 June 2026. The TMT Group, it says, advises clients in the technology, media and telecom sectors on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings, joint ventures, restructurings and financial investments, with key sub-sectors in software, internet, e-commerce, sports and entertainment, publishing, advertising, broadcasting, cable, wireless, hosting, semiconductors, electronics and hardware. Token by token: 'Global Banking & Markets' is the division, 'Investment Banking' the business inside it, 'TMT' the coverage group, 'Associate' the band, 'London' the office. 'Classic' is the one token the page never explains, so use the Function line instead: Banker - Industry/Country Coverage means you cover companies in a sector rather than sitting on a product desk. The client relationship is the unit of work, and whatever the client needs - a merger, an IPO, a bond refinancing - comes through it.
This is a lateral hire, said plainly. The advert lives on Goldman's mid-career board, the corporate title is Associate, and the stated bar is a bachelor's plus two to four years of work experience or an MBA, with significant investment banking experience required. It is one seat on one London desk, not an intake. The realistic applicant is an analyst two or three years into another bank's TMT or M&A group.
The team
The team is Goldman's TMT Group. The work the posting lists for this seat: presentations and reports on strategic alternatives, capital markets activity, equity positioning and corporate governance; analysis of pro forma merger scenarios, leveraged buyouts, public listings and financing alternatives using discounted cash flow, sum of the parts, public comparables and precedent transactions; analysis of accounting and regulatory statements, debt and equity filings, projections and models; and live deal execution in TMT, including due diligence, drafting legal documents with lawyers and potential buyers, organising and attending deal and non-deal roadshows, and liaising with other banks. TMT is not one business model, which is why the sub-sector list on this posting runs so long. B2B SaaS, cloud infrastructure, adtech, vertical SaaS, marketplaces and consumer platforms each run on different mechanics. Software mandates turn on ARR, net revenue retention (above 120% is elite, below 100% means revenue is leaking) and the Rule of 40. Marketplace and consumer work uses a different vocabulary entirely - GMV rather than revenue, take rate, DAU/MAU, LTV over CAC. Cohort analysis beats blended averages nearly everywhere here, and selective cohort reporting is a classic red flag. Source
232 people have held London roles in Goldman Sachs' investment banking division since 2018. there is no separate London count for the TMT desk inside it, so read that number as the division around the team rather than the team.
The firm
779 people have held London roles at Goldman Sachs as a whole since 2018, across banking, markets, asset and wealth management and research.
What this posting signals
The Start line on this page reads 17 June 2026 and it is now September, so the row has been sitting for roughly three months. We do not mark a posting closed on absence alone, and Goldman has not said it is closed - so treat it as live and unverified rather than gone, and confirm the seat still exists before you build an application around it.
No deadline is stated. A single named-desk Associate seat closes when someone accepts, not on a date, so the only sensible move is to apply as soon as your CV is honest about TMT deal experience rather than waiting to add another transaction to it.
Are you eligible?
Stated requirements: a strong academic record with a bachelor's degree and at least two to four years of work experience, or an MBA with relevant experience; significant investment banking experience is required, with Technology/TMT sector experience preferred; experience with buy-side and sell-side M&A and with equity and debt financing transactions is required, as is experience with due diligence and transaction execution; strong financial modelling; valuation experience covering DCF, LBO, merger modelling, comparable companies and precedent transactions; and experience preparing industry and company presentations and benchmarking materials. If you are a student or a graduate without banking experience, this posting is not yours and no cover letter changes 'significant investment banking experience required'. What it is worth to you is the evidence: Goldman's London TMT desk was hiring at the band above you in mid-2026, and this page tells you exactly which sub-sectors that desk covers and which valuation work it runs - useful material for an interview at the level you are actually applying to.
Ready to apply?
No deadline given, so it closes when the places fill.
Most junior seats are filled by someone writing to the right person before a portal
fills up. Here is one of the people Goldman Sachs publishes, in full.
1 person. Their role, the page the firm names them on, and how to reach them
The route that always works, and the one they are most likely to read.
The firm publishes this person, and publishes no address we could read for anyone here, so there is no pattern to show you either. Search their name and firm on LinkedIn and write from your own account.
