The header lines: Division: Global Banking & Markets. Function: Banker - Industry/Country Coverage. Corporate title: Associate. Location: London, United Kingdom. Start: 20 July 2026. The Financial Institutions Group, the posting says, 'provides corporate clients across the FIG spectrum with advice, access to financing and execution expertise across a wide range of investment banking products'. Source
Token by token: 'Global Banking & Markets' is the division; 'Investment Banking' the business; 'Classic' is Goldman's own label on the title, which this page never defines - the Function line does that job, and it says Banker - Industry/Country Coverage, meaning sector coverage rather than a product desk; 'Financial Institutions Group' is the sector; 'London' the office. FIG is the coverage group where your clients are themselves banks, insurers, asset managers and payments firms.
The title says 'Analyst/Associate', but the corporate title line says Associate and the qualifications ask for two to five years of investment banking experience. Apply at the band the requirements describe, not the one the title flatters you with: the Analyst half of that range is someone two years into a bank, not a graduate. One application, at the level your experience actually supports.
The team
What the posting says the seat does: develop financial models, perform customised company valuation analysis, and work actively on M&A transactions and fixed income and equity issuances; organise and prepare presentations explaining industry trends; assess clients' situations and recommend strategies; coordinate teams of tax advisers, attorneys and bankers; lead due diligence processes; and participate in negotiating legal documentation. Source
FIG runs a different analytical framework from corporate coverage, and this is the single most useful thing to know before an interview on this desk. Every decision runs through capital and regulation - CET1, leverage ratios, MREL, Solvency II - because banks are capital-constrained and cannot grow assets freely. P/E multiples are useless; you work in Net Interest Income, ROTE and justified P/TBV. The liability side is existential: deposits, funding structure and refinancing risk matter as much as the asset book. Each sub-sector has its own metric stack - embedded value and VNB margin for life insurers, combined ratios for P&C, revenue yield in basis points for asset managers, take rate and net revenue retention for fintechs. Regulatory approval on FIG M&A runs six to eighteen months. Source
232 people have held London roles in Goldman Sachs' investment banking division since 2018. there is no separate London count for its FIG desk, so that is the division around the team, not the team.
The firm
779 people have held London roles at Goldman Sachs as a whole since 2018.
What this posting signals
Our row tags this posting 'offcycle', which to a student means an off-cycle internship. It is not one. The page asks for two to five years in investment banking, gives a corporate title of Associate, and sits on Goldman's mid-career board. This is a lateral hire onto the London FIG desk. Where the tag and the page disagree, believe the page.
No deadline is stated and the Start line reads 20 July 2026, so it has been open around six weeks. A named coverage seat closes when someone signs rather than on a date - apply now if you have the profile, and do not read the age of the row as a sign that it is easy.
Are you eligible?
The whole stated bar is three lines: two to five years' investment banking or equivalent experience; a history of outstanding academic and professional achievement; and strong team orientation with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members in multiple groups and regions. Source
Three lines is unusually thin for a bulge-bracket advert, and the omissions are the point: no degree subject, no graduation window, no right-to-work statement, no start date. Every one of those filters lives in the application form rather than on the page. If you need visa sponsorship, get that answered before you invest in the application, because nothing here tells you either way.
Ready to apply?
No deadline given, so it closes when the places fill.
Most junior seats are filled by someone writing to the right person before a portal
fills up. Here is one of the people Goldman Sachs publishes, in full.
1 person. Their role, the page the firm names them on, and how to reach them
The route that always works, and the one they are most likely to read.
The firm publishes this person, and publishes no address we could read for anyone here, so there is no pattern to show you either. Search their name and firm on LinkedIn and write from your own account.
