Team: Multi-Asset. Following an initial training programme, you will complete two rotations across our Equities, Multi-Asset and Solutions teams, giving you exposure to different investment approaches and perspectives (source)

What this title actually means

This is a ten-week summer internship, posted on 28 August 2026 and running from Monday 14 June 2027 to Friday 20 August 2027 in the City of London. The job title is Intern, the department is Multi-Asset, and the salary is £37,000 pro-rated over the internship. The page describes it as a chance to explore a career in investment management alongside experienced analysts and fund managers. Source

Schroders Public Markets manages assets across Equities, Multi-Asset, Solutions, Fixed Income and Quantitative strategies. After initial training you complete two rotations across the Equities, Multi-Asset and Solutions teams. The work may include macroeconomic and market research, industry and company analysis, building company models and developing investment theses, and you complete and present two investment projects to fund managers with dedicated mentors supporting you throughout. The firm says its internships are the primary route into its graduate programme. Source

Multi-Asset is what separates this row from the Equities and Quants postings alongside it. An equity analyst picks within one asset class; a multi-asset seat decides between them - how much to hold in shares against bonds, credit, cash and alternatives, in which regions and which currencies, and, hardest of all, when to change it. That makes the work top-down, so the daily material is growth, inflation, central banks, rates and currencies rather than one company's earnings, and the positions are usually expressed through funds, futures and index instruments rather than individual shares. The interview follows from that: expect to be asked what you would own today across a whole portfolio and why, not for a single stock pitch. Public Markets places it on the listed side of the house - assets traded on an exchange - as against private markets, where a manager buys companies, credit and infrastructure directly and holds them for years.

The rotation line changes what you are applying to, so read it twice. You get two rotations across Equities, Multi-Asset and Solutions, which means the title is your entry point rather than your whole summer and you may well spend half of it on the bottom-up side. Solutions is named on the page and never explained - it is the third team in the rotation and the one nobody can define from outside - so make it your first question, because it may be where you actually sit for five of the ten weeks.

The team

No desk is named. The page says you will 'be assigned to a team' and our record carries none for this row, and inside a multi-asset business that word covers several different jobs: the strategy and asset allocation research that produces the house view, the portfolio managers running specific funds against it, and the implementation and risk work that turns a view into actual exposures without paying too much for them. Which of those takes you is the difference between a summer writing views and a summer running positions. Ask which team and which funds as soon as you are allocated.

What the page commits to is that you are assigned to a team where you contribute to live projects, work alongside experienced analysts and fund managers on analysis that feeds investment decisions, shadow experienced professionals, and present two investment projects to fund managers at the end. The firm

Schroders is a global investment manager providing active asset management, wealth management and investment solutions, established in 1804, with around 5,500 people across 36 locations. It serves pension schemes, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations as well as high-net-worth individuals, family offices and end clients reached through distributors, financial advisers and platforms, and attributes its record to spanning different asset classes, client types and geographies. Source

That client list is the argument for a multi-asset seat specifically. Pension schemes, insurers and endowments do not buy one fund, they buy an allocation with a job to do over decades, and multi-asset is the department that builds it. It also means the work is judged against a client objective rather than against a stock index - a distinction worth being able to make out loud, because it is what separates this from the equities seat next door.

What this posting signals

Five stages: the online application form, a Stage 1 cognitive online assessment, a Stage 2 behavioural and motivational assessment, a Stage 3 work simulation and video interview, and an assessment centre. The stated prize is a place on a 2028 Schroders Graduate Programme, subject to performance feedback. Source

A 2027 internship posted on 28 August 2026 is the annual cycle opening on schedule, in the same autumn weeks as the banks' summer programmes - so if you are applying to both, this sits alongside your banking applications rather than after them. And since the firm states that internships are its primary route into the graduate programme, this cycle is effectively the application for a 2028 graduate job in investment management at Schroders.

No closing date is printed on the page. Assume rolling review and apply early: the five stages take months to move through, and multi-asset teams take fewer summer interns than an equities floor does.

Are you eligible?

When the internship starts you must have completed your second year of studies and be on track to graduate in 2028 with a degree or equivalent. All degree subjects are welcome, although the page says a STEM-focused discipline would be beneficial, and applications are not accepted from students in their final year who intend to undertake further study, a Master's for example, before entering employment. The preferred skills are a basic understanding of macroeconomics and investment concepts relevant to asset management, a clear interest in financial markets and investing, strong analytical and numerical thinking with attention to detail, the ability to distil data, research and differing viewpoints into clear insight, and strong written and verbal communication - plus working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Source

The gates are the graduation year and the further-study rule. 2028 graduation means you are a second-year in autumn 2026, so a 2027 graduate is a year late for this intake and should look at the graduate programme instead; and if you are a final-year planning a Master's before you start work you are excluded outright, not merely at a disadvantage. Check those two before you spend an evening on the form.

Of the listed skills, the one that actually separates candidates on a multi-asset row is 'the ability to distil data, research and differing viewpoints into clear insight'. That is the job described in a sentence: taking three economists who disagree and producing one allocation. Bring an example of having done it, and a view on what you would hold across a portfolio today, rather than a memorised stock pitch.
