Team: Unified Global Banking. We're looking for ambitious students to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program Unified Global Banking within our Global Banking business (source)
This is UBS's 2027 Industrial Placement in its Global Banking business, London: a 12-month placement for students whose degree includes a placement year. You would evaluate companies and build models for M&A transactions, prepare industry analyses for pitches and get involved in executing live deals, and a successful placement may bring an offer to return for the Graduate Talent Program after your studies. Source
'Industrial Placement' has nothing to do with industrial companies; it is the UK term for a sandwich year in a degree. Our sector tag on this posting reads 'Industrials' and that is a mislabel: the seat is general investment banking, with no sector or product named. Read it as the year-long version of the bank's Global Banking internship.
The team
Nothing attaches this posting to a named team node, so the description below comes from the advert itself.
You would work in the Global Banking team in London, which the bank says is responsible for providing coverage, advisory, capital markets and financing solutions for corporate, financial institution and sponsor clients. Source
84 people have held London roles at UBS's IBD since 2018. Against 15 in the bank's M&A unit and 5 in Lev Fin in the same data, the broad investment banking group is where most of the London bankers we see sit, which fits an advert that does not name a product team.
The firm
UBS describes itself as a firm with a truly global footprint, says it uses artificial intelligence to work smarter and puts collaboration at the centre of how it works, and states it is an equal opportunity employer that offers reasonable adjustments through the recruitment process. Source
253 people have held London roles at UBS as a whole since 2018, against 84 in IBD, so investment banking is the largest single destination for the bank's London hires.
What this posting signals
The advert asks for students who must complete an industrial placement as part of their studies and who will graduate in 2029, and says a successful placement may lead to an offer for the Graduate Talent Program after studies are complete. Source
A 12-month seat that ends two years before graduation is the longest audition the bank offers: a placement student who does well is known to the team for a full deal cycle and returns with a graduate offer in hand while everyone else is still applying. That is the reason to take a placement year in banking.
Four weeks from posting to the 30 September deadline, with the bank's warning that it may close early: apply in the first fortnight of September.
Are you eligible?
You need to be completing an industrial placement as part of your degree, graduating in 2029; on track for a 2:1 (UK system) or equivalent in your first undergraduate degree; able to show how experimental and responsible use of AI can improve outcomes and efficiency; and have values the bank lists as hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated and collaborative, with strategic thinking, strong communication and the motivation to work to tight deadlines. All majors are welcome, with an interest in the financial industry expected. Source
The gate is structural, not academic: your course must have a placement year built in and you must graduate in 2029, so a student on a three-year degree cannot apply even with a year out arranged. If your university offers a switch onto a four-year sandwich route, that switch is the application's first step.
The route that always works, and the one they are most likely to read.
The firm publishes this person, and publishes no address we could read for anyone here, so there is no pattern to show you either. Search their name and firm on LinkedIn and write from your own account.
