Private equity

You spend a placement outside the summer on the private equity team inside Goldman Sachs Asset Management, helping it buy, grow and later sell private companies. Private equity means buying stakes in companies that are not listed on a stock market, often a controlling stake, with money from the firm and from outside investors such as pension funds and wealthy families. The team then works with the company's management to grow the business and sells it a few years later. The firm's title for the seat is Seasonal, its word for an intern placed outside the usual summer intake.

The Off-Cycle Program varies in length depending on your university and your course, and you are fully immersed in the team's day to day work rather than kept to a separate intern project.
