What the job is
You build the computer models that HSBC's traders use to price foreign exchange options and measure their risk. An FX option is a contract that gives its buyer the right, but not the duty, to swap one currency for another at a set rate on a later date. A quant uses maths and code to work out what such a contract is worth today and how its value moves when markets move. You sit in the Macro FX Options Quant team in London, which serves the front office, the people who trade with clients and carry the bank's market risk.
This is a senior seat. You are a main London contact for the team's work, and you keep what London builds in line with quant colleagues in other regions, so the bank prices the same trade the same way everywhere.
