Asset management · Emerging markets

Morgan Stanley · Emerging markets debt · Off-cycle

Large global investment bank

What the job is

You support the investors who run money in the bonds of developing countries, gathering the economic data and news they use to decide what to buy and sell. It is a long placement in the Emerging Markets Debt team at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where you take on part of the job of a full-time analyst. The team studies the economies and politics of more than one hundred countries and turns those views into investments.

Your part of the team focuses on CEEMEA, which covers Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The team buys and sells sovereign bonds, which are loans to governments, along with currencies, shares and derivatives, which are contracts whose value follows another asset. It can invest to gain from prices rising or from prices falling.
