You help advise consumer companies, such as retailers and food and drink groups, when they buy or sell businesses. This is an associate seat on the bank's Consumer & Retail M&A team in London, the group that runs mergers and acquisitions for companies that sell to shoppers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. An associate sits above the analysts and below the senior bankers, and runs the day-to-day work of each deal.

The team works on every kind of deal in the sector, public and private. On a sell-side deal you advise the owner selling a company, and on a buy-side deal you advise the buyer. A public-to-private is when a listed company is bought and taken off the stock market, and a carve-out is when a company sells one part of its business. The consumer coverage bankers own the relationship with each client, while this team runs the deal itself.
