You spend your first years as an investor at Capital Group researching open investment questions and presenting your conclusions to its analysts and portfolio managers. The seat is on the Capital Associates Program, known as CAP, a global rotation programme for people starting a career in investing. Rotation means you move between areas rather than sit in one team from the start.

The work is research rather than trading or deal making. You take a question with no obvious answer, such as how to value gold against bitcoin or what the government debt of a small emerging market country is worth, and work it through to a view that the firm's investors can use.
