You decide and place trades on big economic themes, such as moves in interest rates, currencies and commodity prices, using your own judgement backed by the firm's research. This is a senior trading seat in the Macro team at Squarepoint Capital. Macro is short for macroeconomic, about whole economies, and macro traders take positions on how growth, inflation and central bank decisions will move markets.

Discretionary means a person decides each trade, not a computer program. Semi systematic strategies sit in between, using models to find or size a trade while the trader keeps the final say. That makes the seat unusual inside a quantitative fund. The firm runs discretionary strategies in equities, commodities, interest rates and currencies, and credit, and trades volatility, a bet on how much prices will move rather than which way, across all of them.
