You trade options on gold, silver and other precious metals with the bank's own money, managing the risk on the desk's positions. The seat is an options trader on the Precious Metals Trading team in London.

An option gives the right, but not the duty, to buy or sell at a set price. Its value depends heavily on volatility, meaning how much the metal's price is expected to swing. The desk trades both financial and physical precious metals, on exchanges and in options agreed directly with other firms.
