Team: Research. Goldman Sachs produces analysis and perspectives on the global economy and markets across formats such as videos, podcasts, articles, reports, newsletters, and briefings. (source)
This is Goldman's 2027 EMEA off-cycle internship in London, sitting in the Global Investment Research Division with the corporate title 'Seasonal'. The firm says the Off-Cycle Program varies in length depending on the programme and the university, is for undergraduate students, and gives you training and the chance to work on real responsibilities alongside its people. Source
'Equity Research' is the half of that division that covers companies rather than economies. You are put on a sector team - banks, healthcare, autos, mining, whatever the desk covers - and the job is the model and the note: keep the earnings forecast for a list of listed companies, rewrite it the morning they report, and be able to defend the call to the clients who ring afterwards. Accounting and clear writing matter more here than deal mechanics.
Research sits on the public side of the wall. It works from information anyone can get and is deliberately kept away from the client and deal information Investment Banking holds, which is why the seat cannot be treated as a back door into banking. It also decides your interview: bring a listed company you can argue both sides of, with a number and a catalyst attached, not a deal you read about.
The team
Goldman describes Global Investment Research as delivering client-focused research in the equity, fixed income, currency and commodities markets: a global team providing fundamental research on companies and economies as well as industries, currencies and commodities, with research analysts working alongside dedicated software engineers, data scientists, content designers, and supervisory and operational services teams. Source
15 people have held London roles in Goldman Sachs' Research division since 2018, against 232 in the Investment Banking Division. Research is a far smaller London population than banking, so the seat is scarcer and the alumni you can ask for a coffee are fewer - but the ones you find are easier to reach.
The page describes the whole of Global Investment Research and never comes back to equity research; the only place your actual desk appears is the job title. The sector is therefore unstated, and the sector is the job - covering European banks is a different technical preparation from covering biotech. Ask which team the seat is on at first contact rather than assuming it gets decided later.
The firm
779 people have held London roles at Goldman Sachs as a whole since 2018, across banking, markets, research and asset management.
What this posting signals
'Seasonal/Off-cycle' is not the summer analyst class. There is no fixed nine-to-ten-week block and no cohort of interns around you: the length is set by your course, you start when the desk needs somebody, and you sit with people doing the job rather than being run through a programme. It suits an undergraduate on a placement year or with a free term, and the field is a fraction of the summer one.
No deadline is stated. Off-cycle research seats fill when a suitable person appears rather than on a date, so the posting still being up is the only signal you get. Apply as soon as your CV is ready and treat it as live until it disappears.
Are you eligible?
The Off-Cycle Program is for undergraduate students. You may apply to up to four separate business and location combinations in any given recruiting year; any further application is automatically withdrawn, and to add one you must first withdraw a current application that has not been turned down. Goldman states that a single applicant should not create multiple email addresses to apply to additional opportunities. Source
The page says undergraduate students and says nothing about master's students, a graduation window or right to work - those filters are applied in the form, not on the page. If you are a postgraduate or you need sponsorship, get that answered before you commit, because four applications is the entire year's budget across every Goldman business and every city.
Ready to apply?
No deadline given, so it closes when the places fill.
Most junior seats are filled by someone writing to the right person before a portal
fills up. Here is one of the people Goldman Sachs publishes, in full.
1 person. Their role, the page the firm names them on, and how to reach them
The route that always works, and the one they are most likely to read.
The firm publishes this person, and publishes no address we could read for anyone here, so there is no pattern to show you either. Search their name and firm on LinkedIn and write from your own account.
