What the job is

You trade options on commodities such as oil, metals and crops for a market making firm, using its own money to profit from prices that have drifted from where they should be. The seat is on a new desk in London that IMC is building around listed commodities options, meaning options that trade on an exchange rather than privately between two parties. An option is a contract giving the right to buy or sell something at a set price by a set date, and its price rests mostly on volatility, which is how much the commodity's price is expected to swing. A volatility trader forms a view on that swing, prices options from it, and takes positions when the market disagrees.

Because the desk is young, you help decide how it trades and what it trades, rather than slotting into a settled process. It is staffed by a mix of people moved from inside the firm and experienced hires from outside, and as it grows the people on it take on wider responsibilities.
