What the job is
You manage private clients' investments, deciding what each portfolio holds and keeping it in line with what the client has agreed. The portfolios are discretionary, which means the client gives you the authority to buy and sell without asking each time. You work within a mandate, the agreement that sets out what the client wants from their money and how much risk they will take.
Brooks Macdonald serves private clients and intermediaries, which are firms such as financial advisers that place their own clients' money with a manager. As a portfolio manager you are the person who makes and answers for the investment decisions in those portfolios.
