What the job is
You research and build the trading signals a computer-driven fund uses to profit from trends in interest rates, currencies, shares and commodities. Quant is short for quantitative, and a quant researcher uses maths, statistics and code to find patterns in market data. Each pattern that reliably predicts where prices go next is an alpha signal, a source of return beyond what the market gives on its own.
The seat sits in the Systematic Global Trend And Volatility sector, which runs strategies that follow trends in macro assets. Macro assets are the big markets moved by the economy as a whole, such as government bonds, FX and stock indices. Your job is to understand what drives those trends and when they start and stop, and to turn that into rules the computer trades on.
