What the job is
You work out what the private investments held by hedge funds and private equity funds are worth, when no market price exists. The seat is an Analyst in Kroll's Portfolio Valuation practice, part of Valuation Services. A listed share has a price on a screen every day. A stake in a private company, a loan to one, or an unusual financial instrument does not, so a fund must estimate what its holding is worth each time it reports to its investors.
Kroll's practice does that estimating independently, for hedge funds, private equity and venture capital funds, credit funds and special situations funds. The seat is hired from university, so it is an entry point from a master's course.
