What the job is
You spend 10 weeks rotating across the sales and trading desks of Scotiabank's London markets business, learning how it trades for clients and helps them raise debt.
Global Capital Markets is the part of the bank that buys and sells bonds, currencies and shares for clients and helps borrowers raise debt. The internship is rotational, so rather than joining one team you see several desks. The list includes Collateral Management & Funding, Debt Capital Markets, Emerging Markets sales, FX sales and trading, Global Equity Sales & Trading, Global Fixed Income sales and trading and Prime Services. Sales people look after the bank's client relationships, and traders take market risk on its behalf.
At the end, interns who do well are considered for the 2028 Global Capital Markets Rotational Graduate Programme, which rotates across several desks with the aim of a permanent seat in Global Banking and Markets.
