The work described is the investment team's own. You support the Associates and Principals with market research and turn it into presentations; research, retrieve and gather data for deal analysis; analyse the historical financials of a potential investment; analyse business plans and build detailed financial models of potential investments with an Associate's support; drive the production of materials for discussion within the investment teams and the investment committees; support the investment team through the deal process up to closing; and help monitor the financial and operational reporting of partner companies. 'French' is a requirement, not a place: the seat is in London. Note where it does and does not appear - the requirements section only asks for fluent English with other European languages 'an advantage', so the actual French filter lives in the title. On a European buyout floor that token means French-language information memoranda, management accounts and press, and French-speaking calls. Expect part of the process to be conducted in French, and do not put it on the CV unless it would survive that.

Read the duty list rather than the word 'intern'. Building models of potential investments, producing materials that go to an investment committee and monitoring portfolio reporting is the junior investment job done on live deals, not a rotational training programme. Prepare accordingly: an LBO you can build from a blank sheet, three-statement mechanics, and the ability to read a set of accounts in a language other than English.

No team is named. The posting says 'the Investment team', 'the investment teams and investment committees' and 'partner companies', which tells you this is an investing seat rather than a fund-side or operations one, but not which pool of capital it sits against. Make that the first question you ask, because the strategy decides what you are tested on and what the internship is worth on your CV afterwards.

What the posting does tell you about the unit: you sit under Associates and Principals, your output feeds the investment committees, and part of the job is monitoring the financial and operational reporting of companies the firm already owns - so the desk runs both new deals and existing holdings, and you would see both. The personal-attributes line asks for a strong commercial mindset, the ability to take large amounts of data and simplify it, working at speed at short notice and 'relentless attention to detail'. What the posting does not state, so you cannot check yourself against it: no degree year, no graduation window, no minimum grade, no right-to-work or visa condition, no length for the internship, no pay and no closing date. Source

'Several relevant internships', plural, is the bar that decides this one. It is not a first internship: the firm expects you to arrive able to build a model with an Associate checking it, not to be taught from zero. Put together with the French requirement in the title, the realistic applicant already has two or three finance internships and French good enough to sit on a management call.
