Sell-Side

The sell side is the part of finance that sells services and securities to investors and companies, mainly investment banks and brokers. It advises companies on deals, helps them raise money by selling shares and bonds, trades with investors and publishes research for them to read.

The name comes from the idea that these firms create and sell financial products while investors buy them. Banks run many of the largest internship and graduate programmes in London, because they hire in big intakes and train people from the start.

The work is built around clients and deadlines, and it teaches technical skills fast. Many people later move to the buy side after a few years.
