Public side

Public side describes people and teams who work only with information that is available to everyone, such as published results, announcements and market prices. In a bank, sales, trading and research sit on the public side.

Because they trade and talk to investors all day, public-side teams must not receive confidential information about companies, and the bank keeps them apart from its deal teams on the private side with barriers known as information walls. If they are needed on something confidential, they are formally wall-crossed and restricted until it is public.

The work is fast and open, built around markets and clients, and a public-side role lets you talk about markets with people outside the firm in a way a private-side role does not.
