A quant researcher, short for quantitative researcher, looks for patterns in market data that predict price moves, turns them into rules, and codes those rules into the firm's automated trading framework. That is the software that places trades without a person pressing the button. This is a junior seat, so you join the research effort early in your career and learn the markets as you go.
