You join a hedge fund on a two-year programme to run your own investment strategy with its capital, training to become a senior portfolio manager. This is the Associate Portfolio Manager Program at Caxton Associates in London. A portfolio manager decides what to buy and sell with a pool of money, sizes each position and is judged on returns against the risk taken. The programme takes people with a strategy of their own and develops them into managers who run money for the firm.
