You research listed banks, insurers and other financial companies around the world and help decide whether the firm's funds should own their shares. The seat is a research associate place on the Global Financials investment team at William Blair in London. The team covers banks, insurance companies, asset managers, exchanges, specialty finance businesses, which lend in niches that banks leave alone, and financial technology companies. Its research goes to the firm's own portfolio managers, the people who choose which shares the funds hold, not to outside clients.

Associate here is a working title for the person who supports the research analysts, each of whom covers a part of the sector, and the portfolio managers. You do the modelling, reading and writing that sits behind their decisions, and you take part in the discussions where a view on a share is formed.
