What the job is
You help arrange and advise on loans that pay for energy projects across Europe, where each loan is repaid from the cash the project itself earns. The seat sits in the Energy Structured Finance team at Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, or SCIB, the team that wins these financings and carries them out for clients.
The team does two kinds of business and you support both. In lending, the bank puts up money itself. In debt advisory, the bank advises a client on where and how to borrow, whether from banks, debt funds or pension funds. The team sometimes helps the bank's energy teams elsewhere with deals outside Europe.
As an associate you are expected to have done this kind of work before, so you run parts of a deal yourself rather than learning the basics.
