What the job is
You help a large investor choose, check and keep watch over the outside hedge funds it hands money to. The seat is Analyst in External Portfolio Management. Instead of picking shares or bonds itself, this team gives money to external managers, including hedge funds, and also puts money straight into single deals alongside them, which is called a co-investment. Your job is to help decide which managers and deals deserve the money and whether they keep earning their place.
It is a 12-month contract at analyst level, the first rung in most of finance, so you do much of the building work. That means the tools, the research and the first drafts of recommendations that senior investors then debate.
