What the job is
You spend nine weeks of summer 2027 on J.P. Morgan's research team in London, studying companies, markets and economies and helping write the views it publishes for investors. Research is the part of the bank that studies companies, industries and economies and publishes forecasts and views on shares, bonds and currencies for clients such as asset managers, pension funds and hedge funds. Rules keep it apart from the bankers and traders so that its views stay independent. The team is called Commercial & Investment Bank Research.
You are placed in one of the research teams. Credit research judges the quality of the debt issued by companies and governments and which bonds are cheap relative to others. Emerging markets research looks at developing economies and how policy and capital flows affect investment there. Equity research analyses companies and sectors and what drives their share prices. FX research covers currency markets and how interest rates and economic data move them. Macro research looks at economic trends, forecasts and what central banks and governments do.
