You help a credit team decide whether to lend to infrastructure and energy businesses, and you keep watch on the investments once they are made. The seat sits in the Sustainable Energies and Infrastructure Credit team, which is part of the wider Real Assets Credit team at CPP Investments. Real Assets Credit provides financing to infrastructure and energy businesses and manages about US$12 billion.

Your team invests across the capital structure, which is the stack of ways a business is funded, from the safest loans at the top to the owners' money at the bottom. Most of it goes into sub-investment grade credit, meaning loans to borrowers riskier than the safest companies, along with structured equity and investments in other funds. The team looks at traditional and digital infrastructure, energy, power and renewables, and a single investment is typically between US$100 million and US$1 billion.
