What the job is
You look after the pension schemes and insurers whose money the firm's bond team manages, explaining how it is invested and winning new clients. The seat specialises in LDI, which stands for liability driven investment. That is a way of investing a pension scheme's money so that it rises and falls in step with the pensions the scheme has promised to pay, rather than chasing the highest return. Fixed income means bonds and other loans that pay a set rate of interest.
A client portfolio manager sits between the fund managers who make the investment decisions and the clients who own the money. You speak for the investment team, so you must know the portfolios well enough to answer hard questions, but you spend more of your time with clients than with markets. The clients are in the UK, Ireland and continental Europe, with the Netherlands and Germany as key markets.
