Industrials - Associate - London
No deadline given. It closes when the places fill, which on a sought-after London desk is often weeks after it opens. Apply as if it closes tomorrow.
What this title actually means
Moelis & Company's EMEA Industrials team is hiring an Associate in London. The team advises industrial companies across EMEA - manufacturing, transportation, building products, capital goods, automotive and engineered systems - and is led by senior bankers with extensive experience across the sector, delivering advice across M&A, capital raising and restructuring situations. The Associate's day-to-day, in the firm's own words: financial analysis and modelling, managing a team, preparing client presentations and interacting with senior bankers and clients. Source
Industrials in London banking is not one sector but eight: Aerospace & Defence, Capital Goods & Machinery, Building Materials & Construction, Engineering & Professional Services, Transport & Logistics, Packaging, Conglomerates and Environmental Services. They behave differently. Aerospace aftermarket is defensive and trades at 15-22x EBITDA because airlines buy spare parts in any cycle; defence runs on government budgets and five-to-ten-year backlogs; cement is priced locally because it is heavy and expensive to ship; capital goods and transport swing with PMI and shipping rates. The craft is reading a backlog - book-to-bill above 1.0x means demand growing six to twelve months out - separating recurring aftermarket revenue from OEM, normalising to mid-cycle EBITDA rather than peak, and running sum-of-the-parts with the 10-20% discount the market puts on conglomerates. Three tokens and no fourth: a sector, a band and a city. That is how a bank advertises one seat on one coverage desk - there is no programme name, no class, no start date. The token doing the work is 'Associate', and the phrase 'managing a team' inside the job description tells you where it sits: you would be running the analysts on a deal, which means the firm is buying someone who has already been one.
The team
Our row carries no team for this posting, but the page names one: the EMEA Industrials team at Moelis. Treat that as the employer - a coverage desk, not 'Moelis'. What the page will not tell you is how big it is or who you would report to, and our own map of Moelis in London holds an M&A Advisory unit and a Restructuring unit with no Industrials node under either, so we cannot fill that gap for you. It is the first question for the first call.
How the team describes its own work: advising industrial clients through what it calls an era of industrial transformation - supply chain realignment, technological innovation, sustainability initiatives and evolving regulatory frameworks - with tailored advice across M&A, capital raising and restructuring, and a stated emphasis on high-profile, cross-border transactions. The firm
Moelis & Company is a global independent investment bank: strategic advice to corporations, governments and financial sponsors on mergers and acquisitions, recapitalisations and restructurings, capital markets transactions and other corporate finance matters, from 21 locations across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. Source
139 people have held London roles at Moelis & Company as a whole since 2018, so this is a real London office rather than a European outpost of a New York firm.
Inside that, our map of Moelis in London splits into two named units: 27 people since 2018 in Restructuring against 12 in M&A Advisory. Neither of those is this desk - there is no Industrials node for the firm - but the split is worth knowing, because it says what the London office has been busiest doing.
What this posting signals
This went up on 31 March 2026 and it is now September: the row has been open five months. One Associate seat on one coverage desk, posted mid-cycle with no start date and no class attached, is a lateral hire - a backfill or a little growth - and five months open usually means either close to filled or hard to fill. Both point the same way: if you match, apply now and find a human to chase. We do not mark a posting closed without positive evidence from the firm, so treat it as live but unverified rather than gone.
No deadline is stated, and a seat like this never carries one. It closes when someone signs, which is why the date it opened tells you more than any closing date would have.
Are you eligible?
What the posting asks for: excellent analytical and presentation skills; knowledge of basic accounting and financial concepts and the ability to analyse and value businesses; 'some experience in Investment Banking (corporate finance/M&A) or equivalent is essential'; results-driven and able to perform under pressure against tight deadlines; a proven team player able to interact with a wide variety of internal groups and clients; strong multi-tasking; strong Microsoft Office, Excel a must. Education: an undergraduate degree, with a focus in finance, business, accounting, economics or mathematics preferred. Source
Read the experience line word by word, because it is unusually soft for an Associate row: 'some experience. or equivalent is essential'. No number of years, no master's, no named sub-sector. That still rules out a student with nothing behind them - this is a lateral hire and the natural applicant is a first- or second-year analyst at another bank. But 'or equivalent' is a real opening, and the education line asks only for an undergraduate degree, so someone doing M&A inside transaction services, corporate development or a smaller advisory shop is inside the stated bar as written.
Nothing on the page addresses right to work or visa sponsorship, and nothing gives a start date. On a lateral seat both are settled in the first conversation rather than on the form, so ask early instead of assuming it either way.
