Associate - IG Credit (Financials)

Apollo's European Investment Grade team is hiring an Associate in London focused on Financials, and the posting narrows that further to the insurance sector. The seat works on all stages of the investment underwriting and portfolio management process across the investment grade funds strategy, supports the Principal on existing coverage of corporates across liquid and illiquid mandates, and sits on deal teams for the origination and underwriting of complex private transactions. The title in three tokens. 'IG' is investment grade - the top end of the credit spectrum, the part of Apollo's platform the firm's own overview puts at the opposite end from private equity. 'Credit' is the asset class: you are lending or buying debt, not buying companies, so the question you answer every day is whether you get paid back, not what the equity is worth. '(Financials)' is the coverage slot - the industries you read - and the posting turns it into insurance specifically, which is the narrowest and most technical corner of financials coverage.

Say it plainly: this is an experienced hire. The actuarial line is the tell. Asking for an actuarial undergraduate degree and multi-year insurance modelling on a credit seat means they want someone who can read an insurer's balance sheet and reserves, not a generalist who has done a few corporates.
