What this title actually means

Posted on 29 June 2026: a full-time Investment Associate seat in London at an unnamed 'leading investment management firm' that advises and invests on behalf of global clients including charities, endowments, foundations and sovereign wealth funds. The page says the successful candidate will work directly with the senior members at the firm and have a fair amount of client interaction. Source

'Fund of Funds' is the token that decides what the job actually is. You would not be underwriting companies; you would be underwriting other people's funds - selecting managers, diligencing their track record and their team, sizing commitments and building a portfolio out of them. The client list the page gives you is the confirmation: charities, endowments, foundations and sovereign wealth funds are institutions that hand the whole allocation decision to someone else, so the output is manager selection and portfolio construction, not deals.

'Investment Associate' is the band, and the eighteen-month floor tells you which rung: this is the first lateral seat above a graduate job, not an entry point from university. On a small investment team the Associate does the manager screens, the quantitative work on track records, and the write-ups that go to the investment committee - with, as the page says outright, a fair amount of client contact, which is unusual this junior and is the part worth asking about.

The team

No team is named, and on this row it could not be: the employer is not named either. The page says only 'a leading investment management firm', so there is no team page to read, no strategy to research and no way to check who you would sit with before you hand over your CV. Ask which firm it is in your first exchange with the recruiter - you are entitled to know before you interview, and the answer changes whether this is worth an application.

The only structural detail the advert gives is that the successful candidate works directly with the senior members at the firm and has a fair amount of client interaction, on money run for charities, endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds and others. Source

The firm

Read the top of the page carefully: Dartmouth Partners is not the employer. This is Dartmouth Partners' own job board, and it is running the mandate on a client's behalf - the same page advertises a VP of sales enablement in private credit, an investment banking healthcare associate, an investor relations associate and several hedge fund analyst seats, and it names the consultant handling this role, with a work email, at the foot of the advert. Source

18 people have held London roles at Dartmouth Partners since 2018 - and that number counts recruiters at the search firm, not investors at the fund you would actually join. On a recruiter row our cohort data tells you nothing about the employer, because we do not know who the employer is.

A search-firm row is worked differently from a firm's own careers page. There is a named human between you and the client, and that consultant decides which CVs are sent on, so the useful move is a short direct email to them setting out the eighteen months you have and why fund of funds, rather than a silent upload through the form.

What this posting signals

Open since 29 June with no deadline, and search mandates close the day the client hires rather than on a date. A row still up after two months is either close to done or genuinely hard to fill; both point the same way, which is to make contact this week rather than polish for a fortnight. We do not mark a posting closed without positive evidence, so treat it as live until Dartmouth says otherwise.

The list of acceptable backgrounds is unusually wide for a buy-side seat - portfolio management, fund of funds, accounting, investment banking, management consulting, financial sales, trading 'or a related role'. If you are eighteen months into an audit job, a consulting analyst programme or a bank's graduate scheme and you thought the buy side was shut to you, this row says otherwise. What it is not is a route from university.

Are you eligible?

Stated requirements, in full: at least 18 months' experience in portfolio management, fund of funds, accounting, investment banking, management consulting, financial sales, trading or a related role; a demonstrable interest in investment management and fund of funds; good written and verbal communication; and a top-tier academic background. The role is full-time and London-based, and the application is a CV upload with an optional message. Source

Note what is absent: no degree subject, no graduation window, no start date, no salary and nothing at all about visa sponsorship or right to work. Every one of those lives with the unnamed client, which means the recruiter is the only person who can answer them. If you need sponsorship, that is the first question of the first call, not the fourth round.
