Team: Strategic Advisory (Power, Utilities and Infrastructure)

Who to write to at PJT Partners

What this title actually means

PJT Partners is hiring an Associate in London for Strategic Advisory covering Power, Utilities and Infrastructure, posted 25 August 2026. The posting says the Associate focused on the Power, Utilities and Renewables space will be a critical part of expanding the platform, with heavy involvement in both deal execution and business development, working in lean deal teams directly with senior power and utilities practitioners, and it states that the role sits specifically within PJT's Power and Utilities sector inside Strategic Advisory. Source

Infrastructure sits between capital markets and essential services, and the four flavours behave differently: regulated utilities such as water and energy networks, where allowed revenue is set by Ofwat or Ofgem every five to eight years on the regulated asset base; transport such as tolls, airports, rail and ports, which carries demand risk directly; social infrastructure such as PFI schools and hospitals, paid a fixed unitary charge regardless of usage; and digital infrastructure such as towers, fibre and data centres. Gearing of 60 to 80 per cent of net debt to RAB works because the cashflows are predictable, and the real diligence pain is regulatory resets, contractor insolvency on fixed-price EPC contracts, political intervention and inflation-linkage mismatches. Source

Read the title in three parts. 'Associate' is the band above Analyst; PJT asks for a minimum of three years in infrastructure or power and utilities investment banking, which puts this firmly at experienced-hire level. 'Strategic Advisory' is PJT's M&A and corporate advisory business, as opposed to its Restructuring and Special Situations business and its Park Hill fund advisory arm. 'Power, Utilities and Infrastructure' is the sector, and the body text widens it to renewables. This is a lateral hire into a growing sector desk, not a graduate or off-cycle seat, and our blank programme tag on this row should not be read as an unknown student intake.

The team

The team is Strategic Advisory, which PJT describes alongside shareholder advisory, restructuring and special situations, and private fund advisory and placement as the services its senior professionals deliver to corporations, financial sponsors, institutional investors and governments. The posting says this Associate would work in lean deal teams directly with senior power and utilities practitioners on both execution and business development. Source

26 people have held London roles in PJT Partners' Strategic Advisory team since 2018, against 44 in Restructuring. In our London data PJT is a restructuring house first and an advisory house second, so a power and utilities desk being expanded is the firm building out the other side of the business.

The firm

PJT Partners describes itself as a global advisory-focused investment bank whose senior professionals deliver strategic advisory, shareholder advisory, restructuring and special situations, and private fund advisory and placement services to corporations, financial sponsors, institutional investors and governments. Private fund advisory and fundraising for alternative investment managers is provided through PJT Park Hill. Source

150 people have held London roles at PJT Partners as a whole since 2018, and every London unit for the firm is an advisory one: Strategic Advisory, Restructuring, M&A and Park Hill.

What this posting signals

The listed responsibilities are execution-heavy: evaluating, structuring and recommending financial and strategic alternatives including mergers, acquisitions, other strategic combinations, asset sales and divestitures; leading the day-to-day execution of transactions including due diligence, valuation analysis and the negotiation of contracts; designing quantitative models to assess the economic performance of target companies; preparing written analysis of investment opportunities for review by clients; and participating in internal and external client meetings, negotiations and due diligence sessions. Source

'Expanding the platform' plus 'business development' in an Associate advert is the firm telling you the desk is being built rather than backfilled. That changes the job: on a lean team at a boutique you originate as well as execute, and you will be judged on ideas brought in, not only on models finished. It also means the desk is likely to hire again at Analyst level as it grows, which is worth watching if you are a year short of the experience.

No deadline is stated and the row has been up since 25 August 2026. A named lateral search closes when someone accepts, so if you have three years of power, utilities or infrastructure banking behind you, apply this week and send the CV as a PDF, which the posting requires twice.

Are you eligible?

To be considered, applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience in infrastructure or power and utilities investment banking, which the posting defines as utilities, power, infrastructure, renewables or clean energy. A strong background in finance or accounting is required, alongside strong analytical and quantitative skills, excellent written communication, interests outside of work and a desire to work in a team environment. The CV must be submitted in PDF format. Source

The three-year minimum is sector-specific, not generic: three years in generalist M&A does not meet it, and three years in infrastructure at a mid-market bank does. For students and recent graduates this posting is closed, and the useful thing to take from it is the shape of the target: PJT's route in at the junior end is its analyst hiring, and a power and utilities desk that is expanding today is a desk worth applying to in two or three years.
